Every mineral claim in British Columbia has a "good to" date. At midnight on that date, if the holder hasn't registered work or paid cash in lieu, the claim forfeits. Mineral Titles Online doesn't send a reminder. There's no grace period. The next morning the cells are open ground, and whoever is watching gets them.
We've been watching. Here's what the next 30 days look like.
The 30-day picture
1,610 claims expire between now and 27 September — 335,815 hectares held by 548 distinct holders. 394 of them, covering 130,022 hectares, lapse within the next seven days.
Most of it is hard rock: 965 mineral cell claims covering 255,775 ha. Placer is 403 claims but only 21,405 ha — placer ground is small and dense. There are also 78 coal licences and applications (46,830 ha) and 51 mining leases in the window.
Where the ground is
Thompson-Okanagan — 316 claims / 48,701 ha
Skeena — 308 claims / 72,217 ha
Kootenay-Boundary — 291 claims / 42,423 ha
Cariboo — 223 claims / 19,808 ha
Omineca — 210 claims / 89,863 ha
West Coast — 123 claims / 12,897 ha
Northeast — 74 claims / 42,039 ha
South Coast — 65 claims / 7,867 ha
Omineca is fifth by claim count but first by area — 89,863 hectares, big blocks and few of them. Thompson-Okanagan and Skeena lead on sheer number of claims, and Skeena is where the majors are drilling, which is why that list matters.
Holders with the most on the line
The pattern that stands out isn't the single big claim — it's holders with dozens of claims all landing in the same window. That's how ground gets lost by accident.
Avanti Kitsault Mine Ltd — 73 claims, 4,092 ha, first lapse in 14 days
Prosper Gold Corp. — 19 claims, 32,554 ha, first lapse in 3 days
Exodus Mineral Exploration Ltd — 18 claims, 12,116 ha, first lapse in 5 days
Pacific Ridge Exploration Ltd. — 17 claims, 13,563 ha, first lapse in 5 days
Peace River Coal Inc. — 15 claims, 4,883 ha, first lapse in 19 days
Omineca Mining and Metals Ltd. — 15 claims, 1,295 ha, first lapse in 4 days
An individual prospector, Thompson-Okanagan — 20 claims, 1,270 ha, first lapse in 22 days
If you're one of these holders and this is the first you're hearing about it — that's the point of this newsletter.
The largest single blocks lapsing
Scottie West 1 (1137283) — Coast Copper Corp. — 5,801 ha — good to 4 Sep — Skeena
Scottie West 2 (1137282) — Coast Copper Corp. — 4,373 ha — good to 4 Sep — Skeena
Tenure 1075156 — Westrike Resources Ltd. — 3,387 ha — good to 12 Sep — Kootenay-Boundary
Forrest Kerr Creek South (1111179) — Spirit Rock Resources Corp. — 2,624 ha — good to 10 Sep — Skeena
New Sadim 2, 3 and 4 — an individual — 8,651 ha combined — good to 20 Sep — Thompson-Okanagan
Coast Copper's two Scottie West blocks — 10,174 hectares together — come up on 4 September. Companies drop ground deliberately all the time; it's a signal about where a budget is going, not necessarily about the rocks. Worth knowing either way.
What the old reports say
For every expiring claim we look for the nearest historical ARIS assessment report. We only attach one when the match is verified against the claim itself — by tenure number or claim name — not merely because a report happens to sit nearby. That gate means roughly one in eight expiring claims carries a summary here. We would rather show you nothing than show you another property's drill results.
Verified matches from this week's list:
QLK EAST EXT (1107049) — 0893428 BC Ltd. — Cariboo — good to 28 Aug — gold — ARIS 35648
Golden Eagle (1031759) — an individual — West Coast — good to 30 Aug — gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc — ARIS 33739
'B' Showing (602961) — Canada Tsinghua International Jade Investment Group Corp. — Skeena — good to 30 Aug — nephrite jade, nickel — ARIS 38458

How to use this
If you hold claims — search your tenure numbers on the map. If anything is red, you have until midnight on the date shown.
If you're looking for ground — filter to 7 days, sort by hectares, read the ARIS summary, and set an alarm for the morning after the good-to date.
If you want an introduction to a holder before the claim lapses — there's a request button on every claim page. We'll broker it.
See you next Monday.
